Todd Elik is back in the league

Todd Elik returns to Erste Bank Eishockey Liga once again. The Canadian Playmaker, who had played alongside Wayne Gretzky in the NHL has agreed terms with HK Acroni Jesenice. Meanwhile, local rivals HDD TILIA Olimpija Ljubljana and Headcoach Dany Gelinas have parted ways.

Since Mike Posma signed for HK Acroni Jesenice, it was only a matter of when, not a matter of „if“ Todd Elik would sign, too. The 43 year old Canadian Veteran is still widely regarded as one of the best skaters in hockey, hasn’t lost his quick hands and vision and could prove the decisive catalyst for the Steelers surge for the play-off-spots. Elik is rumoured to be starting the derby on Friday, which would see Ljubljanas fans enraged. The Center, who played alongside Legend Wayne Gretzky in the Los Angeles Kings Team of 1989, spent his last four seasons in Erste Bank Liga with HC TWK Innsbruck and HDD TILIA Olimpija Ljubljana fro two seasons each. Elik, who scored 371 Points in 500 NHL games for L.A.. Minnesota, Edmonton, San Jose, St.Louis and Boston wasted no time when coming to Europe, scoring 398 Points and logging 1084 Penalty minutes in Swiss National Liga A. He made the switch to Erste Bank Eishockey Liga in 2005/06, totalling 234 points and 414 Penalty Minutes in 152 games. The gifted playmaker stated: “Erste Bank Eishockey Liga is fantastic. I so wanted to return to playing here”, after leaving Swiss Club HC Thurgau behind. He’s expected to make his debut for Jesenice in the derby on Friday.
