Ljubljana is looking for the first win over Dornbirn
HDD Telemach Olimpija Ljubljana is looking for their first win against Dornbirner Eishockey Club on Sunday (17:30). And EC Red Bull Salzburg, that lost Justin Keller to Vienna, hosts EHC LIWEST Black Wings Linz. Goalie David LeNeveu, who won 2010 the championship with Salzburg, plays his first game against his former teammates.
Jaka Zdesar is certainly one of the biggest hockey talents in Slovenia. 60 points, including 28 goals, the 19-years-old forward made 2012/13 already in 24 games in Erste Bank Young Stars League. Last Friday he made his first steps in Erste Bank Eishockey Liga for HDD Telemach Olimpija Ljubljana. One week later the green dragons won at home against the Moser Medical Graz99ers 3:0, with Jaka Zdesar scoring his first goal in Erste Bank Eishockey Liga. “It was an amazing feeling to score on such a high level for the first time in my career. Honestly it came as a bit of a surprise. It was only my third Erste Bank Eishockey Liga game. I knew I was going to get a chance to play and I wanted to show as much skills as possible during that time. At the end everything came together perfectly. Ales Music found me with a great pass and I was able to finish the play with a goal“, said Jaka Zdesar.
Jaka Zdesar was not the only hero in the game against Graz, also goalie Jerry Kuhn made a great job with 41 saves. „It was a close game until the end. Our main advantage was a phenomenal goalie Jerry Kuhn. He took on everything Graz had to give. We had some great chances on our end as well. Out of those we managed to score on three occasions. Graz outshot us but most of the shots weren't really hard. The other key component to our win was a solid defense.“ On Sunday the Dragons now host Dornbirn. So far the Slovenians did not win against the Bulldogs and on Sundays they have not won since end of October or five games. „They have lost their last three games and will be looking to end their bad streak. We wish to repeat yesterday‘s performance once more and add another two points. The key to that will once again a great defense. If we can do that the points will surely stay at home“, said Zdesar.
Dornbirn lost their last three games. On Friday they got beaten by KHL Medvescak Zagreb with 2:4. Now, before Christmas the Bulldogs have still three road games in Ljubljana, Salzburg and Innsbruck in front of them. So far Danny Bois and Co. could win only three out of 14 road games, but in Ljubljana and in Innsbruck, Dornbirn has already been successful. “We were once more unlucky against Zagreb. A few minutes lack of concentration cost us the chance to get points. In Ljubljan,a much will depend on the daily form. We expect another close game. The Slovenes are currently in great shape and have done well with Jan Mursak. But for us everything is possible again! ", knows Manager Alexander Kutzer.
Salzburg hosts Linz
Erste Bank Eishockey Liga instead of Red Bull Salute. EC Red Bull Salzburg hosts EHC Liwest Black Wings Linz on Sunday. Today the Red Bulls lost Justin Keller to Vienna where they lost on Tuesday 2:4, but before the Red Bulls got nine from ten points. “Before the game in Vienna we were doing very well. The guys have to be focused again against Linz and show good hockey. The players showed that they can score goals, allowed less goals and acted as a team", knows Headcoach Pierre Page, who is not afraid of the current standings: “It is not important which team is on top now, but at the end of the championship. The key is not to deal too much with how many points we are behind the top 6, because that puts too much stress on us. We only have to look from game to game and get another two points against Linz!”, said the Canadian, who could win the last two home-games against Villach and Ljubljana clearly. Goalie Bernd Brückler is expected to make his comeback.
David Leneveu won the Championship with EC Red Bull Salzburg in 2010. On Sunday he returns to Salzburg with EHC Liwest Black Wings Linz. After three losses the game is very important for Linz. Under Coach Rob Daum the Black Wings have not lost four games in a row. The first two games this season against Salzburg the Champions won. “We are not playing well at this moment and do not score many goals. Success will come back, when we continue to work hard”, knows goalie LeNeveu. Only five goals Linz scored in the last three games against Szekesfehervar (2:3), Vienna (1:3) and Villach (2:4). Since his year in Salzburg, David Leneveu’s family is good friends with Steve Regier and his family. But he has no presents for his former teammates: “I want to stop him and all other Salzburg players”, hopes LeNeveu for a win. Black Wings are without Pat Leahy, Rob Hisey and Patrick Spannring.
