Marty Turco returns to Salzburg

EC Red Bull Salzburg have secured the services of Goalie Marty Turco until the end of the season. Turco is 36, and has played in close 600 NHL games before winning the Red Bull Salute with Salzburg in December.

Holders EC Red Bull Salzburg have taken their last activity on the transfer market by agreeing a move for Marty Turco. The Sault St. Marie (Graz Captain Cole Jarret was born in the town in Ontario, too, as was legendary Olimpija-Forward Brandan Yarema) native has a trophy cabinet of his own as big as other peoples‘ flats. He played in three NHL All–Stars games, sported the best GAA in the Playoffs in 2006/07 as well as the best Playoff SVS%. He also had the best Regular season SVS% in 200/01. He won a Silver Medal with Team Canada at the World Championships in 2005, when he shared goaltending duties with Roberto Luongo and Martin Brodeur, two Goalies you may have heard of.
Turco represented Team Canada at the Spengler Cup and has now decided to play in Salzburg until the end of the season. He will be training with the team for the first time on Saturday, but don’t expect him in the line-up on Sunday since the necessary paperwork has not been finalized yet.
“It’s been great to come back. Driving in from Munich and seeing the snow, and the beautiful city made me feel at home. We have big games coming up. The Point is to win. I can’t get that out of my head. I want toi get my feet underneath me. We want to move up and get as much home ice as we can. Being Familiar with the team surely helps. I’ve heard a lot of great things about the league and I’m excited to be part of the group. We know what we want to as a group and that’s to win and I want to be part of that pretty bad!”, the player stated.
