Znojmo sign Mike Danton
HC Orli Znojmo have signed Mike Danton. The Canadian played 87 games in the NHL with the New Jersey Devils and St. Louis Blues, scoring nine goals and five assists.
Mike Danton lands in Vienna on Saturday and will be on ice with his new team on Sunday. The 31-year-old center had scored one playoff goal for St. Louis before he was forced to pause. Then he joined the Saint Mary’s university hockey team in Halifax which won the 2010 University Cup. In the present season he has played for Swedish Division 1 club IFK Ore where he scored 41 points (16 goals and 25 assists) out of 27 games. „I know Mike since his days playing for New Jersey Devils when I was in close contact with the team. I’m pleased to see him playing for us because I’m a firm believer in his skills”, says head coach Martin Stloukal. Maybe Danton isn’t the last new arrival for the Czechs because Jan Platil wasn’t able to pass his try out with Finnish Tappara Tampere. “Today I talked with Jan and we are looking forward to finalize a decision until tomorrow”, so Stloukal.
