Carinthian teams win
Carinthian teams EC REKORD-Fenster VSV and EC-KAC won their final Pre-Season-Games. HK Acroni Jesenice were defeated 2:4 by the Red Jackets and Ritten Sport from Italian Serie A were without a chance against EC-Rekord-Fenster -VSV.
EC REKORD-Fenster VSV‘s Headcoach Mike Stewart was without Kevin Mitchell (back problems), Niki Hartl (shoulder) and Michael Köfeler. The first period against Greg Holst’s (a former VSV headcoach and legend in Austrian Hockey) team HC Ritten went by scoreless.
In the second, the deadlock was broken. Chris Martinz tallied, and only three minutes later, Lorenzo Daccordo equalized form a melee in front of Bernhard Starkbaum. Villach regained control and Marco Pewal gave his side the lead back, before Martinz scored again.
In the third, Faustner brought the Italians close to equalizing when he scored the 2:3, but Craig Weller’s goal put the game out of reach for the Visitors. Kyle Wanvig made it 5:2 into the empty net in the dying seconds of the game.
KAC beat Jesenice
EC-KAC versus HK Acroni Jesenice was a very open game in the first period, but goals were just no coming in. The Slovenians, who had arrived at Messehalle with only four import players did well to hold their ground against the Red Jackets. At least, they did so until they were in Man-advantage in the second period: Kirk Furey intercepted a pass, sent Paul Schellander running and the Forward put the puck away. The game continued at good pace and with chances for both teams, but the momentum was always with the home team. Mike Siklenka and Thomas Koch scored, Andrej Zidan closed in, but Tyler Spurgeon made it 4:1. Tomo Hafner’s goal six minutes from time wasn’t enough to chase the course of the game.
