Olimpija sign Justin Taylor

Today, HDD TILIA Olimpija Ljubljana announced the signing of Center Justin Taylor (CAN). HK Acroni Jesenice agreed terms with local lad Jan Bercic. In the mean time, EC REKORD-Fenster VSV’s youngsters beat Nationalliga-Club ATSE 7:2

HDD TILIA Olimpija Ljubljana have announced that Justin Taylor has agreed to a try-out contract until November 1st. Edmonton-born Taylor joins form ECHL–side Ontario Reign. Taylor has made his way up from the WHL end up in the AHL via the AJHL where he played for the wonderfully-named Camrose Kodiak and the Sherwood Park Crusaders. In the AHL, Taylor, who remained undrafted for his entire career, played for Lowell Lock Monsters, Omaha Ak-Sar-Ben Knights and Norfolk Admirals. He tried his luck with Russian Side Metallurg Novokuznetsk, but returned to the AHL, playing with Chicago Wolves, Houston Aeros and Milwaukee Admirals. We may safely put the “journeyman” tag on the player, who totaled 218 Games and 80 Points at the second highest level of North American Hockey.
Born on January 1st, Taylor, who’s been known to dish out when needed, will arrive on Friday and is supposed to make his first appearance in a Dragon’s Jersey on Saturday against Val Brunico. Another better-known player who trained with Olimpija today is Medvescak Zagreb’s John Hecimovic. More on this development as soon as we receive confirmation.

Bercic joins Jesenice
HK Acroni Jesenice have agreed terms with Youngster Jan Bercic, who signed professional terms with the club following a try-out-spell. Bercic (20), who was a point-per-game-player with his youth team Triglav Kranj in the past season, has opted for a two-year-contract with Heikki Mälkiä’s side. Games in Erste Bank Eishockey Liga mean he’ll be in the spotlight more, which is surely a reason for Bercic joining.

Eagles beat ATSE Graz easily
EC REKORD-Fenster VSV’s Headcoach Mike Stewart let a lot of youngsters take the ice against ATSE and it proved a good idea to let young eagles like Lukas Herzog, Martin Ratz, Martin Lauritsch, Alexander Rauchenwald and Daniel Ban to get a first team game under their belt – VSV won the game 7:2. The first three goals were scored by first team-regulars Chris Martinz, Derek Damon and Kevin Mitchell.
