New players in at Jesenice and Salzburg!
HK Acroni Jesenice apparently hold family values high as they pick up the second pair of brothers: Shay and Logan Stephenson (CAN) are on try-out while Tomo Hafner’s contract has been extended. EC Red Bull Salzburg have picked up Dave Labrecque and Johannes Bischofberger.
It’s band of brothers at HK Acroni Jesenice. Following twins Tyler and Justin Donati, the Stephenson Brothers Shay and Logan are on try-out at the Dvorana Podmezakla. Shay, the elder brother at Age 27, has been selected twice in NHL-entry-drafts and played two NHL–games for the L.A. Kings. He sat out last season after narrowly losing out to Stavanger Oilers on the Norwegian Championship with Valerenga. Shay came through the WHL-ranks with The Red Deer Rebels and has a lot of experience in Europe from playing in DEL, Allsvenskan, Serie A and Get-Ligaen.
His younger brother Logan was a second-Round-pick in the NHL-entry draft in 2004. The Phoenix Coyotes acquired his rights, but the 6‘3“-Stay-at-home never made into the first team of the Arizona-based franchise, 323 games in the AHL surely gave him enough time to practice his skills, last seen at Adirondack Phantoms, affiliates of the Philadelphia Flyers franchise. The two brothers look to establish themselves in Europe with Jesenice and will arrive at the start of August.
In related news, former Captain Tomo Hafner has agreed to a contract extension and will likely center the third or fourth line in the upcoming season.
Salzburg get more youngsters, confirm two on try-out
“Dave was Topscorer of the QMJHL with 75 points for the Shawinigan Cataractes. He has the potential to develop in many an aspect of his game,” is what Headocach Pierre Pagè has to say about the latest addition to his squad, 21-years-old David Labrecque. A Venier, Quebec native, the 5’11” Center has lit the lamp on a regular basis in the past few seasons, alerting the Philadelphia Flyers, who picked him in the sixth round of the NHL-entry draft in 2009 but left him to develop in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL).
Johannes Bischofsberger, one of the most exciting young Austrian prospects has also joined the Red Bulls IIDM. Right Wing Bischofsberger is just 16 at this point, but has a wealth of experience from his quality education in the Swiss League with Pikes Oberthurgau.
Two Swedes will also try to get the attention of the maestro in the pre-season by way of a try-out: 20 years-old Right Wing Jens Holmström heads south from Troja-Lyngby while Left Wing Adam Wetterstrand joins Pierre Pagè’s side form Leksand. A decision on all the try-outs will be made on August 14th.
