Zagreb add force to D-line!
KHL Medvescak Zagreb have acquired 25-years old Defender Sasha Pokulok from DEG Metro Stars. He’s been highly recommended by Coach Marty Raymond, for whom he’s played back in Bakersfield.
After fortifying their defense with Geoff Waugh and Sasa Martinovic, Canadian-born Sasha Pokulok is the next new member of the „defense team“ for KHL Medvescak Zagreb. Sasha Pokulok is a tall (6’5”), strong (104 kg) and capable Defenseman with a quick and hard shot, quality puck control and will strengthen Medvescak's defense even more.
Pokulok started his career in Saskatchewan junior league in 2003, where he noted 23 points in 39 games as a defensman. He spent his next two years in the NCAA playing for Cornel University and helped the team to win the Championship in 2004. Next year he earned an invitation to play for Team Canada in U20 World Championship, played in 6 games and won a gold medal. Hard plays earned him an entry to NHL-Draft where he was picked in first round by the Washington Capitals.
The next three seasons - from 2006 to 2009 - Pokulok spent playing for the Capitals' affiliates Hershey Bears of AHL and South Carolina Stingrays of ECHL. In 2008, Pokulok helped the Stingrays to win the Kelly Cup – the ECHL championship finals. In 2009 Pokulok signed with the Bakersfield Condors and spent his season playing in 49 games for Bakersfield of ECHL and seven for Springfield Falcons (AHL) and 8 games for San Antonio Rampage (AHL). In four seasons Pokulok, featured in 68 games in the AHL, scoring three goals for a total of 15 points.
Pokulok heads to Zagreb from German DEL based team DEG Metro Stars from Dusseldorf, where he played in 61 games notching up 17 points and reaching the semifinals.
