KAC see off Olimpija’s challenge

EC-KAC have beaten HDD TILIA Olimpija Ljubljana 5:1 to win their seventeenth consecutive game. SAPA Fehervar lost their road game at Moser Medical Graz 99ers 1:3.

Joy for KAC as the Red Jackets beat Olimpija.
All the Plans in the world don’t help you when you give up two early goals against leaders EC-KAC. After 154 seconds, Peter Ratchuk and a Shorthander by Paul Schellander (3.) gave the Red Jackets a clear lead. The Home team went 2-from-8 in the first period while Rene Swette stopped all the 14 shots he got.
Klagenfurt dominated the second period. They laid siege on Matija Pintaric and eventually scored two goals. Captain Chris Brandner and Veteran Dieter Kalt were there to double the score to 4:0.
The third period looked quite similar. Finally, Petr Sachl ruined Swette’s shutout, profiting from a lapse in the Austrian’s Defence. Markus Pirmann re-stated the four-goal lead four minutes later, drowning all hope for a late Dragons-Comeback. It was the seventh consecutive win for EC-KAC.

SAPA lose road game in Graz and red lantern
Moser Medical Graz 99ers had the game in their hands form the start. Matt Iberers wraparound was contained by Zoltan Hetenyi, but then penaltys were dished out to the Hungarians and Graz Capitalized. Yannick Tremblay scored his second of the weekend and Warren Norris tallied late in the period for a comfy 2:0-lead.
The Second Period saw Pat Harand score after another clever pass by Mike Ouellette, whose importance for the team can’t be emphasized enough. With 28 minutes gone, Eric Johansson opportunistic shot from out near the boards beat Weinhandl. The Devils had clawed one back, and were thanked with three minors stopping any ideas of a comeback they might have had.
In the third period, the Visitors had come to adapt to the referees. In the last ten minutes, they cams close to scoring three times, but even a late rush with their goalie off didn’t pay dividends.
